African Union congratulates all African Rio Olympics teams

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, congratulates all African countries and Africans in the Diaspora that participated in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for their stellar performance

The African Union supports great sportsmanship and positive competition

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, congratulates all African countries and Africans in the Diaspora that participated in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for their stellar performance.

The Chairperson of the AU Commission sends special congratulations to Kenya, Ethiopia, South Africa, Cote d’Ivoire, Algeria, Burundi, Niger, Egypt, Tunisia and Nigeria who won a total of 43 medals, which includes 9 gold, 17 silver and 17 bronze.

Sports are wonderful vehicle for peace, unity, acceptance and harmony. The African Union supports great sportsmanship and positive competition. African athletes should continue to display this spirit through the All Africa Games, which stand as a major rendez-vous for promising athletes in the continent. The All Africa Games are a milestone in the preparation for the Olympic Games as they are an opportunity for the continent’s athletes to showcase their potential.

The AU Commission Chairperson, therefore, congratulates all African teams and athletes in the continent and in the Diaspora for displaying best sportsmanship and African unity at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
