The African Union strongly condemns the attack in Nice, France

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, July 15, 2016/APO/ --

The Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, strongly condemns the horrific attack in Nice, France, after an attacker drove a lorry into a crowd celebrating the Bastille Day national holiday, claiming dozens of lives of innocent civilians and leaving others injured.

The Chairperson of the Commission expresses the AU’s solidarity with the Government and people of France, offers her condolences to the bereaved families and wishes speedy recovery to the injured. She reaffirms the AU’s strong rejection of all acts of terrorism and violent extremism which, she says, have no place in modern society.

The Chairperson of the Commission reiterates the AU’s commitment to continue to work with France, other countries of the European Union, and the international community at large, in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism. She stresses the need for enhanced international cooperation in the fight against international terrorism and calls for renewed efforts to share terrorism-related information, intelligence and data as a strategy to identify and track terrorist globally.
