AU sends best regards to Africans participating in Rio Olympics

The opening ceremony of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games will kick-off on Saturday, 5 August 2016, at 2:00 AM local time, and end on Thursday, 25 August 2016

The African Union continues to display its Olympic spirit through the Africa Games, the last of which were held in Brazzaville

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma wishes all the athletes from African Union Member States who will be participating in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The opening ceremony of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games will kick-off on Saturday, 5 August 2016, at 2:00 AM local time, and end on Thursday, 25 August 2016.

The AU Commission Chairperson, therefore wishes all African teams participating in the Olympics all the best all the best in the tournament, with returns of as many medals as possible.

Dr. Dlamini Zuma reaffirms the need to exercise full caution during the Olympic Games and hopes that the Olympics will commence without any disruptions and that all teams will display best sportsmanship.

The African Union continues to display its Olympic spirit through the Africa Games, the last of which were held in Brazzaville, Congo, which the AU Commission Chairperson Dr. Dlamini Zuma personally attended and addressed the athletes. These Games are a milestone in the preparation of the Olympic Games as, they are an opportunity for the continent’s athletes to express their potential.

The last Olympic Games were in Sochi, Russia, in 2014, while the next Games will take place in PyeongChang, South Korea, in 2018.
